Friends of the KLR

We are always on the look out for new volunteers to assist with the operation of the railway. If you are interested in helping then you can contact any member of staff whilst visiting the railway or contact us using the details provided on our contact page.

There are a number of activities which are undertaken on a regular basis and some of these are covered in the following section as are details of ongoing and on hold projects.

The friends is the volunteer arm of the Kirklees Light Railway and is made up of a dedicated team of volunteers who support the small full time staff to maintain and operate the railway. This involves an immense amount of work undertaking a multitude of activities including track maintenance, engineering works, vegetation clearance, assistance in the station as well as operating the trains.
